CQQ #5: Alone in the Universe...?

Are we really alone in the universe? Could there be others?

Thank you, Robert Pemberton, for suggesting this topic!

People have speculated over the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe, outside of our planet. But if such were the case, how would that possibly fit in, in God's plans? And if we are truly the only ones, then why is the universe so vast?

As far as we're concerned, God's plan of salvation was given to humankind; we were created in God's image and made for relationship with God. One could propose that God knew that humans in the future would create space programs and discover the rest of outer spaceunique planets and satellite objects with properties of their own, asteroids, comets, new stars, constellations, black holes, even galaxies... So many wonders beyond our planet Earth. But the bible basically describes the history of humanity's relationship with God and His will for humankind on earth (with limited details on other elements outside of that; no one has ever reported the exact location of heaven or hell).

Curious Questions to Consider:

Could there be other life besides humans elsewhere in the universe?

Do angels dwell on other planets?

Besides a location for the sun, moon, and stars (see Genesis 1), why was outer space created? What is the purpose of the other planets, galaxies, and objects in space?

Is God's plan of salvation only reserved for humankind?

Could it be possible to discover a physical location of heaven or hell beyond outer space (without our souls departing)? Or are they unreachable otherwise?

  1. God is not limited. If He desires, He can create life anywhere. The universe is a reflection of the omnipotence of Almighty God. But even the seemingly unending series of galaxies and stars are but a finite creation, and do not begin to fully describe the supernatural Creator. Could God create other life (humanlike or not) and provide eternity for it? Of course, but this does not lessen the assurance of our redemption, salvation, and eternal preservation thru Christ.

Aliens? I don't know, and it doesn't bother me. The fact is, we as believers should be as aliens to our culture, peculiar as the Bible puts it, not enmeshed and sucked into darkness, but rather ambassadors for Light. On a mission to earth, to bring others back to the home world in Heaven.

    God bless you.

  2. My opinion, based on my own Theological thinking is that we are the only sentient beings created by God in the universe. Otherwise if there were other sentient beings on other planets then Christ would have to do His work on the cross on each of those planets, which of course would not happen. Therefore we are alone.

As to why the universe was created so vast, I don't have an answer to that one yet, but I'm rest assured that God knows the answer.

  3. With regard to UFOs I think there are at least 2 possible explanations. Firstly they may be demons or secondly they may be signs and wonders.
